Why a Guitar Stand Can Damage a Nitro Finish

Rubber and foam pads on many guitar stands and wall hangers contain plasticizers — phthalates and similar compounds — that migrate into nitrocellulose lacquer on contact, softening it into a sticky or hazed patch. The Cloth and Tubing Workaround

If you already own a stand and can't verify what the padding is made of, the fix doesn't require replacing it. In practice that means wrapping the yoke and the body rest in a plain, undyed microfiber cloth — a colored or printed cloth reintroduces the same dye-compound risk the padding itself carries.
