Guitar Cleaning Supplies
Most guitar cleaning is a dry microfiber cloth and thirty seconds of habit. This is the short list of products that handles the rest — and what to leave on the shelf.
Microfiber Cloths
Why You Need Them
Microfiber cloths are essential for daily guitar maintenance. They remove fingerprints, oils, and dust without scratching the finish. Unlike regular cloths, they trap particles instead of spreading them around.
Key Features to Look For:
- Ultra-soft, non-abrasive material
- Lint-free construction
- Multiple sizes for different areas
- Washable and reusable

Guitar-Specific Polish
The Right Polish Matters
Furniture polish and household cleaners are how finishes get ruined — silicone and alcohol are the usual culprits. Use instrument polish matched to your finish type, and never polish a satin finish: it creates shiny spots.
Types of Polish:
- Cleaner/Polish combination
- Separate cleaner and polish
- Matte finish specific
- High-gloss specific

Fretboard Conditioner
Less Is More
Unfinished rosewood and ebony boards can dry out. A sparing coat of conditioner — a drop per fret area, everything wiped off after a minute — brings a pale board back. More is not better, and maple never needs it.
When to Use:
- Once or twice a year at most
- At a string change, strings off
- When the board looks pale or feels dry
- Rosewood and ebony only — never maple

String Cleaner
Extend String Life
Wiping strings after every session does most of the work. A weekly pass with string cleaner adds to it if you play daily — sweat is mildly acidic, and it eats strings from the day they go on.
Benefits:
- Slows corrosion between changes
- Keeps tone brighter for longer
- Reduces finger squeak
- Cheap insurance for daily players
